Dozens of diners tucked in to a big burger challenge at the weekend to help raise more than £1,000 for a popular charity.
A rugby player managed to devour one of the four pound burgers in less than an hour as part of the fundraising competition held in Hilgay aid of the Norfolk Hospice Tapping House.
As previously reported, village-based butcher Ali Dent set the culinary challenge.
And more than 100 people turned out to try his monster burgers during the event at the village’s Rose and Crown pub on Saturday.
Mr Dent was delighted with the success of the evening, which has raised £1,020 for the charity.
He said: “We only thought we would get 10 people to do it but were pleased to see over 100 there.”
West Norfolk Rugby club member Paul Bridger, of St Germans, won the Hilgay Burgermeister Challenge by munching his way through the burger and bap in 55 minutes.
The burger, which was created at Dents of Hilgay, was five inches deep and surrounded by a big bun with a small layer of lettuce.
“Some people only had eight ounces while others had nearly half the burger before they had to give it up. Paul did really well. He was really munching away but had to stop for 20 minutes.”
