Hillcrest celebrates with science day
OUTER space, the human body and the five senses were just some of the topics youngsters at Downham's Hillcrest Primary School explored during a special science day in their new hall.
The extravaganza, organised by the school's science co-ordinator Bob Brown, gave pupils in each year the opportunity to share their new knowledge in a range of different areas while celebrating the recent extension to their dining room.
Downham town mayor John Doyle attended the event, held at the school last month.
Teacher Mr John Reeve, key stage two leader, said: "We have been a growing school for quite a few years and our accommodation got quite squashed, so we had an extension to the dining room and a larger staff room built.
"We are using the extension as a second school hall as well as for extra art and dining space.
"It was a really worthwhile event and it gave us the chance to bring all the childrens' learning together.
"It was attended by staff, governors and representatives from other local primary schools and it was really nice to have them there.
"We are going to continue with similar events throughout the year."
