Hunny burst main affects 1,000 homes
ANGLIAN Water engineers worked through the night on Wednesday to restore supplies after a burst water main affected 1,000 homes and businesses in Hunstanton.
The A149 Lynn Road started flooding at about 4.30pm on Wednesday and had to be shut off while firefighters from the town worked until 6.30pm to divert the flow of water and pump it away from nearby homes.
The burst main was between the police and fire stations. Anglian Water sent a crew to fix it after being alerted to the problem at 5.30pm.
Yesterday, an Anglian Water spokesman said the crew started the repair but had to stop because there was a gas main close by which had to be examined by someone from the gas utility to ensure it was safe for work to continue.
"They started working again at 1.30am and finished the repair by 4am. They then had to flush through the system and it was back in operation by breakfast time," she said.
The spokesman said the 1,000 properties affected all had water but it was at low pressure and that continued until yesterday morning.
