Hunstanton: Children's home reunion

WERE you one of Hunstanton's St Christopher's Boys – or a friend of one?

Former residents of the resort's Church of England Children's Society home are holding a reunion in September and inviting old chums still living locally to join them.

Anyone who lived at the St Christopher's Home for Boys from 1900 to 1968 can attend the get together, which is taking place in Hunstanton from Friday, September 11, to Monday, September 14.

Organiser Dave Barnett, who now lives in Sussex, said: "In the past, we have had reunions restricted to one age group. Now we are looking for more lads to join us and anyone who was friendly with a St Christopher's boy."

They may have been fellow pupils at Hunstanton Primary School and Smithdon High School or choristers at St Edmund's Church. Boys from the home also played cricket at Glebe House School, just across the road from St Christopher's which later became better known as the Sandcastle holiday home.

Only two former residents are known to be still living locally, Gordon Snelgrove, of Hunstanton, and David Baynham, of Snettisham.

A highlight of this year's reunion will be a special fish and chip dinner at Cassie's Restaurant in Hunstanton. Those attending the reunion will also take part in a service at St Edmund's church.

Anyone who would like to know more is asked to contact Mr Barnett, of 19 Kings Close, Lancing, West Sussex, BM15 8DB, telephone 01903 762394.
