Hunstanton: New mayor wants to 'build bridges' with boro'
HISTORY teacher Christine Earnshaw has been appointed the new Mayor of Hunstanton.
She was elected at the town's Mayor Making ceremony last week and will replace Richard Bird, who had held the position for the two previous years.
Mrs Earnshaw, who retires from her role as history teacher at Hunstanton's Glebe House School in the summer, told the Lynn News she has set a number of priorities for her term and said she is looking forward to the challenges ahead.
She added: "The most important thing I want to do for Hunstanton is to bring about a much-improved working relationship between the town and borough councils, building bridges with a view to getting the best results for the people of the town."
The new mayor said she will continue with the town hall basement project to provide youth facilities in the town and is looking forward to seeing regeneration projects push ahead.
Efforts will also be made to bring more social housing to Hunstanton and to address the problems of traffic congestion.
Mrs Earnshaw said: "I have been deputy mayor for the last two years and it is a great honour to serve the town.
"I chose to live in Hunstanton 25 years ago, I love the town and am looking forward to the challenge."
One of her first duties as mayor was to take part in the Hunstanton Spring Clean Up as part of the resort's effort in the Britain in Bloom campaign.
Mrs Earnshaw was joined by fellow members of Hunstanton Town Council along with representatives from Hunstanton Civic Society, local guide and brownie units and other community groups.
