Injured Lynn fisherman rescued at sea
AN INJURED Lynn fishermen was brought safely to shore on Tuesday night thanks to a combined operation by Wells lifeboat crew and coastguard rescue team.
The alarm was raised at 9pm when Yarmouth Coastguard Station received a call from the Lynn Shellfish vessel, Sea Swallow, which was six miles north of Wells.
Help was requested for a 31-year-old crew member who had suffered a severe knock on the head from a large plastic fishing gear float and was described as "confused and drifting in and out of consciousness."
The Sea Swallow could not get into the harbour because the tide was too low so the Wells RNLI all-weather lifeboat crew was alerted.
The coastguard station also put the Sea Swallow's crew in contact with a doctor who asked for the injured man to be transferred to hospital as soon as possible.
The lifeboat crew carried out a difficult low-water tractor launch to reach the Sea Swallow.
The patient was assessed by the lifeboat station doctor before being brought closer inshore.
He was then carried across exposed mudflats by the Wells Coastguard Rescue Team and taken to Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance.
No-one from Lynn Shellfish was available to comment at the time of going to press.
