Inventor Mike dies, aged 74
A LYNN man who invented an aluminium tricycle which later sold overseas has died at the age of 74.
Mike Allen first made the eco-friendly Redmount Roller recumbent trike for himself but later manufactured it at his Mount Street home.
News of the trike spread by word of mouth and soon it was in demand by disabled people as it could be adapted to meet their needs.
One of Mr Allen's grandchildren, James (28), from Burnham Market, said his grandfather was a real eco-warrior and also a disabilities entrepreneur.
"He could often be seen round Lynn riding the trike," he said.
Mr Allen, who died from cancer at the town's Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Monday, leaves a widow, Ann, sons Gareth, a GP at Gayton Road Health Centre, Gaywood, Jonathan and Stephen, four other grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
"He was very inspirational," Dr Allen said.
The funeral is at Mintlyn Crematorium on Thursday at 11.30am.
