'June's Park' might be on move
WEST Norfolk Council is currently exploring suitable alternative sites for play equipment after having to remove swings from a Gaywood park for safety reasons.
Childminder June Garside is dismayed that the play equipment has been removed from the Queen Elizabeth Avenue park, which is off Wootton Road.
"I have got 19 children on my books and I used to enjoy going down there," said Mrs Garside (48).
"In the summer, we used to go down there for the day. Now there's nothing to do."
Mrs Garside said the park was ideal for her needs and it was only a two-minute walk away from her home in Edinburgh Avenue.
"I was down there every day. People call it 'June's Park'," she said, adding that she had asked for a seat and a bin in the past and hoped the site could be developed.
A spokesman for West Norfolk Council said the park suffered from vandalism, littering and other anti-social behaviour and was not well used as a play area. The swings were removed for safety reasons, she said, adding there were no plans to develop the site although fencing had been repaired because the site was near a river.
"However, we are currently exploring suitable alternative nearby locations for play equipment," said the spokesman.
