KING’S LYNN: Andy now an Ikon for BID
Business Today - last year's Mayor's Business Award winners Sarah and Andy Wilson outside 'Ikon' in Lynn's New Conduit Street.
Lynn retailer Andy Wilson is aiming to help kick-start business in the town centre in 2013 by garnering support for a Business Improvement District (BID).
Mr Wilson, who runs the popular Ikon store in New Conduit Street in the Vancouver Quarter, aims to visit every independent trader in the town centre over the next few months to discuss the proposed BID.
He said: “The Lynn BID offers local business people the chance to work together to not only raise extra money for the town, but also to control where and how that money is spent.
“Over 200 towns and cities across the country already have successful BIDs. If we can get a ‘yes’ vote for Lynn we could implement a whole raft of new initiatives which might include marketing campaigns, improved maps and signage, street marshals and more street cleaning.
“A BID would also give local businesses a stronger, united voice when it comes to dealing with the council over issues such as parking”.
Lynn’s BID Steering Group chairman Ben Colson, managing director of Norfolk Green buses, said “We’re delighted that Andy has joined the team. As a local business owner himself, he understands exactly how a BID can help the town during these tough economic times.
“The BID is very keen to engage with absolutely everyone in the town centre and I would urge businesses to get in touch and to arrange a meeting with Andy.”
BIDs have been adopted all over the country after ballots of retailers, from Aberdeen to Plymouth
Mr Wilson is asking local businesses to contact him via the King’s Lynn BID website at www.kingslynnbid.com to arrange an appointment.
