KING’S LYNN: Cinema meeting for golden couple
Golden wedding anniversary celebrations for Roy (70) and Jennifer Bolt (68).
A chance cinema meeting led to 50 golden years of marriage for a Gaywood couple.
Roy and Jennifer Bolt tied the knot at St Nicholas Chapel, Lynn, on December 22, 1962, after meeting at the Majestic Cinema two years earlier.
The couple, of Reeves Avenue, marked their anniversary with a family meal, and are planning a party and holiday.
Mrs Bolt said: “We have had a lovely 50 years together. I would say the secret is give and take. I would advise newlyweds to talk to one another and always make up - never go to bed on an argument.”
The couple met when Mrs Bolt went to see a film with two friends, including Mick Miller, her future husband’s cousin.
She said: “When I saw Mick again he asked if I wanted to go on a date with Roy and we went on from there.”
Mrs Bolt also recalled there were snow flurries on their wedding day.
The couple have three children, Karen, Bev and Tracy, six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Mr Bolt was a cable joiner for 30 years before becoming an assistant caretaker at the teachers college in Lynn. His wife was a dinner lady at St Edmund’s Primary School and a home help care assistant.
