KING’S LYNN: Happy at timetable
The main group of objectors opposing the incinerator have declared themselves happy with the timetable hammered out for the public inquiry today.
King’s Lynn Without Incineration (KLWIN), the consortium behind the proposed £500 million project Cory Wheelabrator and Norfolk County Council held discussions on how the inquiry will proceed in the next eight weeks.
KLWIN vice-chairman Mike Knights said: “We have worked hard to compose an adjusted timetable, and although some aspects are not as we would have liked, they are acceptable to us. We are very relieved that our witnesses will now be able to attend.
First the ill-health of the inquiry inspector forced him to step down which in turn caused a delay in the hearing and the objectors’ counsel was unable to appear because of other commitments.
Mr Knights said: “Fortunately King’s Lynn solicitors Hayes+Storr came to the rescue at the last minute and we have Carla Goodyear to represent us throughout the entire inquiry and on very generous terms that we can afford. But she faces a huge challenge, having to get a handle on a major public inquiry only three days before it started,
“We had organised our witnesses under the original timetable, many of whom have had to take days off from work. None of them can easily switch to the revised programme, but now we have the certainty of a set timetable, this will make matters easier.
”Despite the new timetable we do have to question whether this is democracy.”
