An appeal has been unveiled to raise thousands of pounds to revamp a much-loved sensory room used by youngsters with learning disabilities.

Officials at Morley House, in Goodwins Road, Lynn, have big plans to transform the facility with a range of high-tech equipment.

And they have already launched a campaign to raise around £8,000 which will be needed to fund the work.

The home, which is run by the charity Break, offers weekly boarding during term-time and short breaks during the school holidays for young people aged between eight and 18 who have learning difficulties, autism, challenging behaviour and associated physical disabilities.

The building, which opened in January 2010, is designed to cater for a maximum of six youngsters at any one time.

And the current sensory room offers a place to relax for some, or a stimulating environment for others.

The home’s manager, Carol Gyton, said: “It is fantastic.

“If you can’t hear you might like looking at the lights. Some like holding textiles.

“For some people who show challenging behaviour it can be used as a calming down zone.”

Plans to transform the room include mending the bubble tube, updating a projector which projects lights on to the wall along with music, and some lighting on the ceiling.

A sound-to-light wall could also be installed to encourage young people who don’t speak to make sounds.

However, the work is set cost around £8,000 so staff are looking for donations to help fund the project.

They are also planning to carry out their own fundraising activities, including a slimathon, sponsored walks and quiz nights, though dates have yet to be fixed.

Anyone who can help with the project is asked to contact Morley House on 01553 772157.
