KING’S LYNN: Student cook takes on region’s best

A Lynn hospitality student wowed judges with his culinary skills at a regional cookery final at the weekend.
Daniel Freear, who is a student at the College of West Anglia, competed against other young chefs at the Rotary-organised competition held in Ipswich on Saturday.
Although Daniel, pictured here preparing for the competition at the college last Wednesday, did not finish in the top two positions in the contest, lecturer Jonathan Boyall said his menu of pea soup with a poached egg and smoked trout, duck cooked in four ways and a dessert of chocolate fondant with sticky caramel sauce still impressed the judges.
He said: “Daniel did well and received some very positive feedback from the judges, demonstrating some very impressive knife and culinary skills throughout.”
Daniel, whose menu will be on public sale in the college’s Vancouver restaurant later this month, added: “It was a great experience, I really enjoyed taking part and hope to enter future competitions.”
