The wife of a soldier, who lost both his legs in Afghanistan, is trek across the Great Wall of China to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Lisa Marie Arnold, 31, is taking on the seven-day 80km challenge, next month, as thanks for its support after her husband, Steve, was seriously injured by a bomb.

She said: “I’ve seen first hand what they have done, not just for Steve, but for me and for thousands of others. I don’t think we would have coped as well without the support of some amazing charities and this is my way of saying thank you for all they have done for us.

“Steve does so much for Help For Heroes, and I have been nothing but proud of everything he has achieved since he was hurt. I hope that by doing this he will be proud of me too.”

Mrs Arnold spotted the opportunity to take part in the trek while on the Help for Heroes website.

She said: “I’ve always wanted to go to see the Great Wall of China and I couldn’t resist, I had to do it. I’ve been getting in lots of long walks with the dogs to prepare and I’m planning on taking part in the Hero Ride in London to keep my fitness up and raise awareness of the charity.

“I’m really looking forward to it. It’s so amazing to be able to do something I’ve always wanted to do while raising money for such a good cause.”

Mrs Arnold has already raised £4,626 in sponsorship. She said: “I’m really enjoying the fundraising. It’s something I’ve really taken to.”

Mrs Arnold is holding a fundraising fancy dress disco on Friday at Reffley Community Hall from 7-11pm.

She is also holding a Colossal Cake Sale at Lynn’s British Legion on April 20.

She said: “I would really love to get to £5,000 and above that would be amazing.”
