KING’S LYNN: Work starts on £400k hotel restoration
New jobs will be created in a £400,000 plan to create a hotel and restaurant.
Surya Hotels has bought the former Glendevon Hotel in Lynn’s Railway Road and restoration work started last week.
Operations director Gez Chetal said the new site will incorporate an authentic Indian restaurant with eight double bedrooms.
The hotel and restaurant is set to open in March and will create 10 to 12 new jobs.
Mr Chetal said dried goods for the restaurant, including the rice, will be supplied by the company’s patty fields in northern India.
He said: “This is an exciting project. We have expertise at bringing buildings back to life.
“One of the big things for the Glendevon is that we are going to make the kind of food you will get in India.
“I feel that the town needs a proper Indian restaurant.”
The restaurant will have an open kitchen and a clay oven.
The Glendevon, which had also been the Sakura Wok and Grill, has stood empty for some time.
The future is looking brighter for another empty building.
Antonio’s Wine Bar in Baxter’s Plain was sold at for £154,000 at auction in December.
Lynn agents Russen and Turner along with The Auction House, in Cringleford, were joint agents in the sale.
A Downham man is believed to have bought the former wine bar.
