Leave poor Pentney be – Fry

POPULAR actor and author Stephen Fry has added his voice to the debate surrounding proposals for new quarries in West Norfolk.

Mr Fry, who has a home in West Bilney, has called for developers to "leave poor Pentney be" and halt plans for a huge sand and gravel quarry on the edge of the village.

Currently away filming in America, he emailed Sam Knox, the resident behind www.savepentney.co.uk, telling him: "Please put me down as a supporter."

The email read: "One small church lane connects a small village to one of the most used and dangerous roads in England – all it needs now is the presence of huge aggregate trucks, leaving their sludge, litter and mud, adding their clank noise and dangerous presence.

"It is as if Pentney is being encircled by aliens and it is surely time to stop and leave poor Pentney be."

Mr Fry's personal assistant Jo Crocker told the Lynn News on Wednesday, he "remains passionately concerned that these proposals do not go ahead".

She added: "He is sorry not to be able to add more weight to the campaign but he is filming a documentary in America."
