Legion holds tribute to dead

FORMER servicemen from Lynn's Royal British Legion held a "simple but moving" ceremony to commemorate the first Armed Forces Day on Saturday.

The veterans gathered at the war memorial in Tower Gardens where the secretary of Lynn Gunners, Mrs Gillian Gould, opened proceedings by reading a John Masefield poem.

Former Company Sergeant Major Ron Mortimer took the salute for service personnel from past and present conflicts and quoted the act of remembrance.

Mr Mortimer, a veteran of Royal Anglian Regiment, said: "It was a short ceremony of remembrance for the Fallen and it went brilliantly well."
