Let there be light at Downham

THESE were scenes at Downham on Sunday afternoon as Borough Mayor Kathy Mellish switched on the festive lights, joined by the Town Mayor, John Doyle.

One of the biggest- ever crowds gathered in Downham's market place for an action-packed afternoon.

As well as a visit by Santa to the town hall, there was a mini-funfair, charity stalls promoting local organisations, music from Hilgay Silver Band and festive entertainment from the choirs of Clackclose and Hillcrest Primary Schools.

The town's festive activities and the switching-on ceremony were arranged by Downham Lions, and the lights had been put up by members of the Chamber of Trade.
