Libraries: Taster sessions planned

LIBRARIES are planning free taster sessions to help visitors track their family history.

A free online database, which is part of the library service in Norfolk, has been used around 16,000 times during the last six months, allowing users to search through records of births, marriages, deaths and census returns.

The increase in popularity of the service has prompted the libraries to hold free taster sessions.

Jennifer Holland, Norfolk County Council's head of libraries and information, said: "TV programmes such as the recent series Who Do You Think You Are? have certainly made people more curious about their family history.

"Libraries have a whole host of resources that can help people fill in the gaps, not least ancestry which has helped people to make some real breakthroughs."

Free ancestry taster sessions are being held as follows: Lynn Library on Friday, November 23; Swaffham Library on Monday, November 19 and Monday, December 17.

Anyone interested should book a session with their local library.
