Lorry-loads of poppy publicity
A Lynn-based lorry firm founded by a former Parachute Regiment soldier has given an up-front display of its support for this year's Poppy Appeal.
Pegasus Freight Lines donated money for 15 giant poppies to go on the front of its fleet of lorries operating from Oldmedow Road on Lynn's Hardwick Industrial Estate and from its depot in Anchor Road, Terrington St Clement.
Royal British Legion Middleton branch standard-bearer John Moran, who served with the Parachute Engineers from 1961 to 1968, presented the big poppies to Pegasus managing director Hank Pooley and fellow director John Ewing last week.
Mr Pooley said that when Stan Ewing formed the company in 1970 he sought permission from the Parachute Regiment, with which he served, to use its famous flying horse emblem, Pegasus, on his vehicles – and it was still in use to this day.
Mr Moran said West Norfolk Glass also took three big poppies for its vans. He said that poppies on Remembrance sticks were now available with the Star of David symbol for the Jewish faith and a crescent moon for Muslims.
