Lots to bid for at Holkham Hall – on eBay

ONE of West Norfolk's best known historic houses has joined the internet auction craze in a bid to raise money for its upkeep and restoration.

Holkham Hall has put together two packages which money could not otherwise buy and is selling them to the highest bidder on eBay.

The hall is just one of a large number of museums, galleries and heritage attractions which have all signed up for the site’s TopLots auction.

A personal tour of the hall for four people followed by lunch with Viscount and Viscountess Coke in the North State Dining Room as well as a lifetime pass for two people to visit Holkham Hall, park and gardens are the packages up for grabs.

Viscount Coke said: “This is a very new venture and a rather unusual way of raising funds for the ongoing heritage work we carry out at the hall every year, whether it is restoration work or routine care of the paintings, china or statues.

“We hope people will visit the website and help support the museums, historic houses and heritage properties which are all taking part in the auction.”

The full list of auction items can be seen on www.toplots.co.uk where you can register and then browse through the 200 lots.

Through the eBay for Charity scheme, all money generated will go back to the organisation which has put lots forward with a small amount taken for administration.

The lifetime pass at Holkham Hall will be available online until Wednesday, and the personal tour will be open to bids until Sunday, October 21.
