Lynn chorus going global

LYNN Festival Chorus will be going global when it performs Drums and Voices, A Celebration of World Music in the town's St Nicholas Chapel on Sunday.

The programme explores three very different settings of Hear My Prayer – Mendelssohn's version, including the famous final section O For the Wings of a Dove, Purcell's simple setting written in the 1600s and a contemporary gospel version by Hogan Moses.

The chorus will also be performing traditional folk-songs of Tamil, Hawaiian and Italian origin, gospel songs from townships in Africa and the ghettos and deep south of America, as well as African lullabies and songs of celebration.

European Christian music from the 17th and 19th centuries and contemporary Jewish Sacred Music will complete the journey.

Percussionists Graham Instrall and Andrew Martin will be joining the chorus on a selection of drums.

Pianist will be chorus assistant music director John Byron and Michael Kibblewhite directs.

Tickets, priced 10 and 9 concessions, are on sale from the box office at Lynn’s Corn Exchange on 01553 764864.
