Lynn company fined after death

A LYNN company has been fined more than a quarter of a million pounds after an incident which led to the death of an employee.

F.J. Chalcroft (Construction) Ltd, of Hamlin Way, on the Hardwick Narrows Industrial Estate, was fined 260,000 and ordered to pay 80,000 costs by Nottingham Crown Court on Friday after pleading guilty to breaching Section Two of the Health and Safety Act.

Daniel Askew (22), from Pembrokeshire, died when he fell ten metres after leaning on an unsecured hand rail in a cold store Chalcroft was constructing in Nottinghamshire, in November 2003.
