Lynn marina plan draws crowd
PUBLIC interest in Lynn's marina project appears to be growing after a packed audience gathered this week to gain an insight into plans for the massive waterfront development.
More than 120 people attended a meeting in Lynn's All Saints' Church on Wednesday, when West Norfolk Council's head of regeneration, John Norton, gave an illustrated talk on the scheme before answering residents' questions.
The marina development has been billed as offering up to 300 jobs, around 900 homes and a 13 million a year boost to the town's economy.
Speaking at Wednesday's meeting, Mr Norton said: "There is an awful lot to do but the borough council wants this to move forward as quickly as possible.
"Nothing will happen on this site until at least 2009 or 2010, but a lot of investigation work will go on in the meantime.
"We got involved with this big project to take Lynn to the next level, but I also appreciate the impact this may have at local levels. We are all on a journey and there is a long way to go.
"I do believe it will be a benefit to Lynn and will take it forward as a very important town for East Anglia."
The masterplan also includes a 250-berth marina, an 80-bed hotel, shops, bars, restaurants and a multi-storey car park.
Mr Norton was keen to stress the marina is still at the masterplan stage and a number of steps need to be taken before the scheme can become a reality.
A number of queries were raised during the course of the meeting, ranging from potential smells from the marina water to the relocation of parliamentary berths for pleasure boats, all of which will be covered in the detailed planning application to follow.
