Lynn Sainsbury's happy families affair

MANY people will go out of their way to see their mum this weekend to mark Mother's Day, but for a string of staff at a Lynn supermarket no effort is required – they see their mums every day at work.

It is a real family affair at Sainsbury's, where 11 of the shop's staff work alongside their mums in the store day in, day out.

Supervisor Tessa Massingham (23) gets the opportunity to take revenge for all those moments in childhood when her mum told her what to do – she is 43-year-old mum Donna Massingham's boss.

In truth, it is a perk she said she doesn't take advantage of and the pair don't get sick of each other – even spending lunch hours together on the days when part-timer Donna, who also works as a hairdresser, is at the store. Tessa said: "We are constantly asked if we are sisters."

Check-out supervisor 23-year-old Sam Newson also gets to experience being boss to her mum Ann Holder (44). The pair have worked together at the store for the past seven years.

Sam said: "It's great. I know I can always rely on her to get things done."

For them the family ties among the store's 198-strong workforce go on and on. Ann's husband David Holder (40) works at the store, as does her sister Jenny Hannant (51) and her two other daughters Elaine (24) and Ruth (17) and niece, Jenny's daughter Clare have done stints at the supermarket.

Jayne Dix (52) has worked at the supermarket for 35 years and had a period of working alongside her daughter Amy (27) before Amy moved to Norwich.

Jayne said: "It's just a good place to work. I was proud for Amy to come and work here."
