Lynn shopping centre helps Lions help QEH
LYNN'S Vancouver Quarter shopping centre is helping a Lynn Lions' project after the Lions in turn helped the centre at Christmas.
In November, Lions' members were invited to help with this year's Santa's Grotto in the Vancouver Quarter, arranging for Santa and helpers to attend every weekend from November 23 to Christmas.
Lynn Lions welfare committee had previously established a 8,950 dual frequency radio surgery instrument or laser knife was needed in the department of ophthalmology at Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
"In appreciation of our help, the Vancouver centre management has donated 1,000 towards the project," said Mike Thompson, chairman of Lynn Lions welfare committee.
Fundraising has also received a major boost of 4,190 from the "Don Peech Fund", set up in memory of a former Lynn Lion and East Anglia district governor who died in 2000.
"We have also been supported in our efforts by our fellow Lions from Downham, Fakenham, Hunstanton and Swaffham who have presented amounts totalling 3,000," said Mr Thompson.
The remaining amount is being taken from the Lynn club's charity fund.
The knife is designed for use within day surgery, clinical outpatients and operating theatre settings.
"We have been assured by the consultant ophthalmic surgeon that this instrument will be used for a number of procedures," said Mr Thompson.
