Lynn to get new green 'uniform'
SEATS, railings and bollards in Lynn town centre are going green with the introduction of a new colour scheme.
Unco-ordinating street furniture will also be gradually replaced after a review showed 41 different types of bollard, 12 styles of fencing and 15 kinds of bench were currently in place.
West Norfolk Council's cabinet member for regeneration, Jason Law, said: "The approach taken to street furniture in the past has been quite ad hoc. We want to really upgrade the street scene in town and on access routes to the town."
Initially, all street furniture would be painted green to create a sense of uniformity. "This has been very effective in Hunstanton where we introduced a green and gold colour scheme about two years ago," said Cllr Law.
The scheme will include replacing and re-using railings and bollards, including renewing railings in London Road to match those in The Walks and near Greyfriars Tower.
Replacement bollards will be made of 40 per cent recycled material and have a thick, coloured coating to minimise maintenance costs.
Initial costs are estimated at 8,000, to be funded by Norfolk County Council and West Norfolk Council.
The head of leisure and public space in West Norfolk, Mr Chris Bamfield, said: "The scheme will take a while to really have an effect but we are confident it will uplift the street scene in Lynn."
