Lynn town centre set for major facelift
CONSULTATION on plans to transform Lynn town centre, including the former post office building, will begin later this month.
Building Design Partnership (BDP) has been appointed by West Norfolk Council to develop an exciting new masterplan for the extension of the town centre.
The plan, which will take into account the views of residents and local organisations, will provide a detailed framework for the development of the area earmarked for improvements, which includes Old Cattle Market car park, the bus station, St James' Swimming Pool and the former Baxter's Plain post office.
It is hoped the development will provide new shops and facilities, enhance the town's appearance and improve links between the town centre and railway station.
Stakeholders are invited to share their views in the first round of consultation surgeries being held at the council offices in Chapel Street next Tuesday and Wednesday.
Councillor Jason Law, portfolio holder for regeneration, said: "This is an exciting project to emerge from the urban development strategy for Lynn. The masterplan will ensure a coordinated and holistic approach is taken in any new development within the study area and that those plans reflect the future needs of the town."
Council leader Mr Nick Daubney added: "Building on the success of the Vancouver Quarter, this is another step in the regeneration of the town centre. It is crucial that key landowners and stakeholders in the town get involved in the development of this masterplan to ensure their aspirations and views are taken into consideration by the Building Design Partnership."
Ideas drawn up by the BDP will be presented at a public exhibition in June and a final draft of the masterplan is expected to be finished by July.
Key stakeholders have already been contacted about this month's surgeries, but the organisation is anxious no one is missed.
Groups or organisations wishing to take part must first make an appointment by calling Beck Cocker at BDP on 020 78128980.
