Lynn 'welcome home' parade for Anglians
WEST Norfolk will get its chance to show gratitude to the brave Royal Anglians with a homecoming parade planned in Lynn next year.
The Lynn News and West Norfolk Council leader Nick Daubney are among those who have been campaigning for the regiment to come to the borough since its recent return from the Afghan Helmand province.
A date has now been agreed and set for Sunday, March 30, when the regiment will first parade on Tuesday Market Place and then be invited with their families to a party in the Corn Exchange.
West Norfolk Mayor Kathy Mellish said: "I am absolutely delighted that I shall have the opportunity of leading the borough's welcome to our local troops and know it will be a very emotional day and one I will long remember."
The regiment was granted the freedom of the borough in 1983, but has not been on parade here for ten years.
l Railway operator One has announced a train is to be named Royal Anglian Regiment to mark the homecoming at a ceremony in London on Thursday.
A serving soldier will unveil the nameplates and soldiers and their families will then travel on the train to a homecoming parade in Norwich.
The nameplates were originally displayed on a locomotive on the Norwich to London route in 1985 and have since been specially restored.
