Lynn youngsters receive awards
TWO of the youngest members of Lynn's Talking Newspaper Association have received certificates recognising their help in preparing tapes for blind and partially-sighted residents in the area.
Borough Mayor Kathy Mellish presented 15-year-old Matthew Fysh, of Jeffery Close, North Lynn, and ten-year-old Charlie Gilbert, of South Wootton, with the certificates when she recently attended the 27th anniversary recording of Vision Link – the Lynn talking newspaper.
The pair have given invaluable help in checking, cleaning, sorting and packaging the tapes, Matthew for seven years and Charlie for the past four years.
Association chairman Mr Michael Forster said: "You don't get many lads of that age sticking at it and they have done the job cheerfully, and it's been a great help. Matthew and Charlie said it was "a nice surprise" when they were given the certificates thanking them.
"I like to help people who are less fortunate than myself," Matthew said.
Mrs Mellish, who recorded a Christmas message for the tape and included details of her mayoral activities, has chosen Guide Dogs for the Blind as her charity for the year.
She has also been a presenter on Chinwag, the talking newspaper produced in Downham.
