Lynnsport offered to Olympic teams
OLYMPIC athletes could choose to prepare for the 2012 London Games at Lynnsport.
The prestigious West Norfolk centre has been assessed as suitable by the Olympics' organising committee and included in a guide for pre-games training camps.
West Norfolk Council's cabinet member for sports, arts and open spaces, Liz Nockolds, said it was fantastic news.
She explained that the council put Lynnsport forward for assessment and said she was thrilled to see the centre included in the guide.
"It's very exciting. Lynnsport is a high-quality facility and being in the guide will help promote our area," said Cllr Nockolds.
Lynnsport is one of 65 venues in the East of England to be chosen and 600 across the UK. The centre will offer facilities for athletics, badminton, basketball, table tennis and indoor volleyball training.
"We will keep our fingers crossed that there will be a country which will be interested in coming here to use our facilities," added Cllr Nockolds.
The chairman of the organising committee for the London Games, former Olympic runner Sebastian Coe, said the guide would show the countrywide spread of facilities suitable for use by elite level athletes.
"Facilities listed will really help overseas athletes prepare well," he added.
