Major revamp at Lynn store

A NEW 50-seat café and expanded menswear section have been included in early plans for a major modernisation scheme at Lynn's Marks and Spencer store.

Plans have just been submitted for a first-floor expansion at the High Street store, which will create a significant increase in floor space while expanding the range of products and goods available.

If given the go-ahead, the first floor will comprise a new caf along with menswear and childrenswear departments and a homeware section.

The transition will create increased space on the ground floor for an expansion of the ladieswear, beauty and food sections, with a customer lift, escalator and staircase also being incorporated.

A design statement accompanying the plans, which have just been submitted to West Norfolk Council, reads: "Marks and Spencer has been implementing a massive modernisation programme throughout its store portfolio in the UK for the past two to three years.

"The Lynn store represents an opportunity to expand the existing store and provide further services and facilities to its existing customer base.

"The store has had little investment in recent years and as such has become tired and out of step with the modern requirements of a department store, as well as to cement the store's position in its current town centre location.

"It is therefore proposed to expand the store, within the existing footprint to convert part of the first-floor warehouse into new retail space, which would incorporate a new 50-seater caf."

The scheme also includes plans to remove the existing doors, windows and surrounding brickwork in Norfolk Street while installing a new shop front with a central entrance on High Street.
