Many people rely on animals

In response to the letter in the Lynn News on Friday regarding a fear of more dog owners going to Holme.

We do not want to get into the argument of who are the better people – dog owners or non-dog owners (there are, after all, obnoxious people in all walks of life!), but we would like to apologise on behalf of all responsible, polite and caring dog owners, for those who your reader obviously came into contact with at Holme.

We are members of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, and Norfolk Wildlife Trust, and regularly walk our dogs at Holme (as well as Hunstanton), and are fully aware of keeping dogs under control.

We completely agree that all dog owners should clear up after their dogs, those who don’t should be heavily fined and prosecuted – there are already laws in place for this.

I hope that the letter writer will also write to all those people who rely on dogs (guide dogs, hearing dogs, support dogs for the disabled, etc) should there ever be a ban on all dogs in open spaces (I think there would be STRONG objections to it.)

We obviously know many dog owners and they are very caring, polite people, doing much for charity, and we would be more than willing to meet with the letter writer to try and redress the balance.

ROB AND DENISE HUNT, Astley Crescent, Hunstanton
