Marathon effort for Hunny lifeboat appeal

A MUM is helping to raise the last £10,000 needed for a new RNLI lifeboat at Hunstanton by taking part in a half marathon this December.

Caroline King (32) is putting her new-found running ability to good use by taking on the Norwich Half Marathon in aid of the Lynn News Hunstanton Lifeboat Appeal.

The appeal for a new state-of-the-art inshore lifeboat has proved a resounding success since its launch 14 months ago and has got just 10,000 to go before it reaches its 125,000 target.

Mrs King, of Old Town Way, Hunstanton, started running for the first time in the spring following the birth of her daughter, Isabella, who is now 22 months old. She took part in Cancer Research UK's 5km Race for Life at Houghton Hall in June and the same charity's 10km run at Sandringham last month.

"I figured I should put my new-found running ability to good use and help another charity by doing the Norwich Half Marathon," she said.

She decided to support the lifeboat appeal having moved to the town from Lincolnshire with her landscape gardener husband Andrew (40) six months ago, and as the couple and other family members enjoy watersports.

"I thought it was a good local charity to support, and you never know when you may need its help," she said.

The full-time mum, who is originally from Lynn, is currently training four times a week, and enjoys running along the beach to Holme and beyond and at Sandringham. She is aiming to complete it in two hours and 20 minutes.

She has also entered the ballot for the Flora London Marathon, which she hopes to run for another charity, but won't find out if her bid was successful until December.
