Molly dancing at top in Hunstanton
MOLLY Dancing lessons have shot to the top of the class for pupils at Redgate Junior School, at Hunstanton.
Children in Year 5 and some from Year 4 are loving every minute of the weekly sessions and are practising hard to perform in front of an audience of parents later this month.
Molly Dancing expert and tutor Gordon Phillips was invited to the school at the beginning of this term to run six weeks of tuition and teach the children the dance and to appreciate its role and importance in East Anglian history.
Head teacher Brian Lucey explained that the lessons have been incorporated into the curriculum.
"They are absolutely loving it and we are planning a performance for parents on February 28," he said.
"It is something that really does need to be preserved and recognised."
The Molly Dancing is just one of several new initiatives that have been introduced at Redgate.
Mr Lucey said that a group of children are taking part in programme at Premier Racquets and Fitness in Sedgeford which combines fitness activities with literacy, maths and IT tuition.
Sixth form students from Smithdon High School visit Redgate on Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtimes to run chess and maths clubs with the junior school pupils; and, in turn, some Redgate Year 6 youngsters go to Hunstanton Infants' School each week to play with the children and listen to their reading.
