More awards for Swaffham's Strattons

SWAFFHAM'S multi-award winning Strattons Hotel has been in the thick of the action again, claiming four top awards in four days.

Owners Vanessa and Les Scott went to Ickworth House, near Bury St Edmunds, on October 18 to pick up the Taste of England and Sustainable Tourism honours at the regional Enjoy England Awards for Excellence.

And on October 21, together with members of their team, they were at Sprowston Manor, Norwich, for the first annual Norfolk Hospitality Industry Awards to receive the Small Hotel of the Year and Hotel Restaurant of the Year awards.

On the Enjoy England honours, Mrs Scott said: "They highlight the quality of the tourism industry in the eastern region and give a tremendous boost to all participants."

Winners in each category are automatically entered for the national awards, to be presented in April 2008.

East of England Tourism chairman Dr Derek Langslow said: "There are some marvellous examples of high quality and excellent customer service, as well as best practice in welcoming visitors with disabilities, promoting local produce and looking after the environment."

Hospitality Industry Judges praised Strattons for its support and promotion of local suppliers and attractions, and also highlighted its green approach.

Mrs Scott said: "In 18 years of business we have stuck to our principles of providing quality without sacrifice to the environment; for it to work we have to have commitment from staff and guests."

Strattons buys local produce and services, trains its staff to appreciate why this is important.

Guests arriving by public transport receive a ten per cent bill reduction as a thank-you for reducing their carbon footprint.
