Multi-coloured South Lynn school set for OK
A NEW school likely to act as a "landmark building" is due to meet with a thumbs-up from local planners, despite its revolutionary design.
Members of West Norfolk Council's development control board are on Monday due to be asked for their opinion on the new St Michael's Primary School in South Lynn.
Replacing the existing school, it will be built on undeveloped land between Saddlebow and Wisbech Road.
Plans are in the offing for a single-storey school for 210 pupils, complete with children's centre and community facility.
There will also be an all-weather artificial playing surface and grassed playing pitch as well as a cycleway.
Members of the board – who are being consulted on the Norfolk County Council children's services scheme – will hear how the design uses different colours and types of materials to differentiate between different uses of the buildings involved.
Planning officers conclude the different coloured elements will not overpower the building or street scene in a report due to go before the board, recommending that members should back it.
