Mystery surrounds motorcyclist's crash
A MOMENTARY lapse in concentration is thought to be to blame for the death of a motorcyclist who failed to negotiate a bend and crashed off the road, a coroner ruled.
Clare Holyland (41) was thrown into the air and into a road sign after beginning to lean into the steady turn at the Castle Acre junction on the A1065 at Southacre, but then inexplicably straightening up, an inquest at Lynn County Court heard on Thursday.
Ms Holyland, of Mill Road, Lakenheath, in Suffolk, had been enjoying a ride to Cromer with five other bikers when the crash happened at around 11.20am on April 21 this year, the court was told.
In recording a verdict that Ms Holyland died as a result of a road traffic collision, Greater Norfolk coroner Mr William Armstrong said: "There really is no explanation for what happened. It seems likely that Clare suffered some kind of momentary aberration, the source of which has not been discovered.
"I'm deeply conscious of the fact that what happened does remain something of a mystery."
Motorcyclist Paul Yen, who was riding behind Ms Holyland, said: "There were some green signs positioned just on the bend. Whether she glanced at them no-one knows. It only takes a split second from looking down to looking up and you are out of position."
