NARBOROUGH: Improved school gets national recognition
A school put in special measures two years ago has just won national recognition for older pupils’ improved test results.
Narborough Primary School has received a letter of congratulation from the Minister of State for Schools, David Laws, saying: “The excellent performance of your pupils in the 2012 national Key Stage 2 tests show you are among the 100 top performing schools for sustained improvement in Level 4 plus performance each year from 2009.”
Last year, 85 per cent of 10 and 11-year-olds at the school achieved Level 4 or above in English and maths, double the percentage in 2009.
Mr Laws said: “Mastery of English and maths is critical to success at secondary school and beyond so these pupils have given themselves a really good start to the next stage of their education.”
He praised the school’s staff, governors and pupils for their hard work.
After an Ofsted inspection in June, 2010, the 90-pupil school was judged to require special measures. Under temporary headteacher Andrew Haynes, improvements were made.
In September, 2011, the school was graded satisfactory and Key Stage 2 test results improved to 80 per cent.
Headteacher Malcolm Brockway, who joined the school in 2011, said he had maintained the strategies and progress started by his predecessor.
“There has been a really deep commitment from the teaching staff and very hard work on their part, as well as the children themselves,” he said.
Mr Brockway said the letter arrived towards the end of December and was a lovely end to the term.
“It was the best news to receive just before Christmas,” he said.
