Narborough: Kick wall strikes success for villagers

AN £1,800 timber kick wall has made many people happy at Narborough.

The community centre committee no longer has to worry about damage caused by youngsters kicking balls at the walls of the building and the young people can now enjoy themselves without constantly being asked to move on.

"It is a classic case of groups of people working together to solve a problem," said Peter Wilkinson, the parish councillor and former policeman who came up with the idea.

He explained that young people who used the community centre as a kick wall were causing some damage to the building. "I spoke to them on one occasion and they explained there was nowhere else to go, so I approached the parish council which agreed to fund a proper wall on the playing field," he said.

"It cost 1,800 but the youngsters are very pleased with it and the community centre committee is happy."

The wall was officially handed over on Friday to the community centre chairman Alan Brinsdon.
