New B and Q opens in Lynn
LYNN'S long-awaited new B&Q store opened its doors to its first customers on Friday, with the help of eight-year-old schoolgirl Sarah Lofts.
The South Wootton Junior School pupil was given the honour of cutting the ribbon with slalom canoeist and Team B&Q Olympian Campbell Walsh after she won a competition to design the staff badge.
Her design, featuring Lynn's South Gates, has now been made into a badge for all the 90 new recruits at the store.
The new 5 million DIY store has been built on the former Jaeger factory site on Lynn's Hardwick Industrial Estate.
Covering around 45,000 square feet, it boasts more than 21,000 product lines and features 13 specialist shop-within-a-shop areas showcasing lighting, flooring, paint and soft furnishings, as well as kitchen, bathroom and bedroom showrooms.
B&Q general manager Paul Smith said on Friday: "We had a great day celebrating with all the staff and are thoroughly looking forward to working in this fantastic new environment.
"We have received an excellent response from the first customers to visit the store, particularly commenting on the increased product range and services."
Mr Walsh, who won a silver medal at the Athens Olympics in 2004, said: "I felt really privileged to be invited to such an exciting event and it was great to be able to meet lots of staff and customers and share my Olympic experiences with them. I think the new store is going to be a real benefit to Lynn."
