New homes for Hunstanton park?

A FORMER holiday park could be demolished to make way for 20 new homes in Old Hunstanton if developers receive the backing of council planners this week.

Bullock Homes is hoping to re-develop the former Old Hunstanton Holiday Park in a move which will see 36 chalets cleared to create room for a mix of 15 houses and five apartments in a scheme "reminiscent" of a farmhouse and farm complex.

Plans for the development south of the A149 on Old Hunstanton Road will be considered by members of West Norfolk Council's development control board at a meeting today.

The scheme has been recommended for approval subject to an agreement being reached which will see 258,000 contributed towards off-site affordable housing and 10,000 towards off-site highway works.

A report to members states the site will incorporate a mix of housing comprised of five two-bedroomed apartments, two three-bedroom semi-detached cottages and 13 three and four-bedroomed houses.

But due to the constraints on the site, namely a large number of trees with preservation orders and the fact the proposed access road is not suitable for adoption, the developers have said it is impractical to provide affordable homes as part of the scheme.

It is hoped the 258,000 contribution will provide two one-bedroomed houses for rent, two two-bedroomed houses for rent, one three-bedroomed house for rent and one two-bedroom house for shared ownership at an alternative site.

Despite being recommended for approval, Old Hunstanton Parish Council has objected to the plans due to the lack of affordable housing included.

It also believes the buildings are not in keeping with the village and would not bring trade, as would be the case if they were sold as occasional holiday homes.
