New Hunstanton seal rescue centre
WORK is about to start on a new seal rescue centre in Hunstanton to help offer improved facilities for sick and injured marine animals found abandoned along the coast.
The 50,000 project at Hunstanton Sea Life Sanctuary will also include a refit for the current seal hospital and the introduction of a seal rescue academy, where visitors will be able to learn about the five "Rs" – rescue, recovery, rehabilitation, release and retirement.
The new-look rescue centre will allow visitors to get closer to the seal pups than ever before and follow their journey from the first days of treatment through to their recovery and final release back to the wild.
Manager Nigel Croasdale said: "The existing seal hospital has successfully seen more than 100 baby seals through its doors, however, the time has come to upgrade the facilities to ensure we can continue to rescue and care for these amazing animals for years to come."
Work is due to start at the sanctuary on Southern Promenade this month and is scheduled for completion by the Easter holidays.
The centre will remain open to visitors throughout the hospital renovations.
