New owners, but the old Star will remain

WHEN Fakenham's oldest pub closed in February there were fears it would be sold for development.

But now The Star on Oak Street has been saved thanks to the Admiral Taverns group which recently bought the premises and leased them to landlords Greg Southall (32) and Toby Hutchins (33).

The new incumbents are determined to retain all the features associated with the old Star, including teams in cribbage, pool and darts leagues as well as quiz nights.

They will also adopt Wells Lifeboat as their charity to continue the long tradition set up by previous landlady Mary Rumbold.

Mr Hitchens, who previously ran the Little Crown pub in Colchester, said he had strong memories of the area from childhood holidays at Wells.

No major alterations have been made to the building apart from some redecoration and a new carpet.

The Star, which reopened on June 20, will be open every day from noon until around 11pm.
