New owners want Lynn hotel's spirit

LYNN'S haunted 15th century Tudor Rose Hotel has new owners who are eager to find out more about its ghostly past.

Charles Douglas and his son Jack, who have bought the hotel, and Jody Lynn and Danny Rowbotham who are running the restaurant, are fascinated by the spooky legends that surround the medieval building.

But before they go ghost hunting, they are upgrading the building, which includes the bars and 14 bedrooms and have re-launched the restaurant.

Mr Lynn was a chef at an Old Hunstanton hotel and Mr Rowbotham was a manager for Gala Bingo before they made the decision to go into business for themselves.

They are already opening the restaurant seven days a week, serving lunches between noon and 3pm and evening meals from 6pm until 10pm. On Sundays, the restaurant is open only for lunches, including traditional roasts.

"We are offering straightforward, traditional home-made food using locally-sourced produce whenever possible and we are looking at introducing steak nights and curry nights," said Mr Lynn.

They are taking bookings for Christmas and are making the restaurant available for private parties and functions.

Mr Douglas explained that his role is to update and freshen up the hotel and lift the atmosphere. "I want to bring it back to life again," he said.

Live music evenings are part of the plan and he is happy to offer musicians and music groups a chance to play in public.

"We would also like to find out more about the ghost legends and I would happy for groups with an interest in the hauntings to come here and investigate," he said.

The Tudor Rose, just off the Tuesday Market Place, in St Nicholas Street, dates back to the 15th century although it has been extended several times since then.

Legend has it that there are ghosts in the building including a bride who was stabbed by her bridegroom during the wedding reception, and a sad-faced woman who was seen to disappear in a white mist.
