NORTH LYNN: Parcels are heaven sent to front

Kirsty Mickelburgh with her children Baily (5) and 11 year old Chantal are appealing for donations to send parcels to the troops in Afghanistan.

A new organisation has been set up to send parcels to servicemen and women who might not otherwise receive them.

Kirsty Mickleburgh, 29, from North Lynn, decided to create Militaries Angel after sending Christmas presents to her partner Alan Reeves, 30, who is serving in Afghanistan.

While Alan regularly receives piles of parcels from Kirsty and his family, some of his colleagues don’t get anything and this prompted Kirsty to want to help.

She is appealing for donations of everyday items including toothpaste, toothbrushes, magazines, shampoo, body wash, tissues, tea and coffee. A full list can be found on her Facebook page by searching for ‘militaries angel’.

Miss Mickleburgh, who is training to be an accountant, said: “I know some people join the military because they have no family and it’s horrible to think that they are not getting anything from home.

“They are out there doing a good thing and making sure we live a good life.

“I want it to be a community thing. Friends and family think it’s a brilliant idea and are really proud of what I’m doing.”

Miss Mickleburgh also wants to send parcels to people whose families cannot afford to do so themselves.

She has received samples of toothpaste from a local dentist to include in the boxes, and aftershave and perfume samples from Debenhams. Lynn’s Majestic cinema has donated cinema tickets which will be auctioned on her Facebook page to raise money for packaging costs and to buy more items.

Anyone who would like to donate should contact Miss Mickleburgh on Facebook via Militaries Angel or on 01553 349091.
