North Lynn pet rabbits slaughtered

TWO pet rabbits have been slashed to death in what police have described as a devastating and sick attack.

The rabbits' owners returned home to find both their pets dead in the back garden and one with its tail cut off and ear slashed.

It is thought someone scaled a 6ft fence to get to the giant rabbits which had been given the run of the garden in Columbia Way, North Lynn. They had been rescued from an animal shelter some years ago.

Police spokesman Miss Beth Manning said: "The rabbits' owner has been left devastated after returning home to find them dead in the back garden and especially so after realising what had been done to them.

"The property backs on to a communal parking area where youths often congregate and it's possible they may have witnessed whoever was responsible scaling the fence.

"This was a sick act and we would appeal to anyone who knows anything about it or has heard anything about it to contact police so we can find those responsible."

The attack happened while the occupants, who did not want to be named, were out between 2pm and 3pm on Wednesday, August 22.

Anyone with information should contact the Lynn North Safer Neighbourhoods Team on 0845 456 4567, alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
