OAP tagged for grabbing woman's bottom
PENSIONER George Francis was tagged and ordered to sign on the sex offenders' register after being convicted of grabbing a woman's bottom when she was out walking with her young children.
The victim, in her early 20s, told police how she had seen Francis a number of times and he often made inappropriate comments, but on this occasion he left her feeling "physically sick" after reaching out and grabbing her as she walked past.
The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said she kept walking, keeping her two and four-year-old moving, and when she looked back saw Francis continuing to leer at her.
Francis (70) maintained his innocence throughout, but was sentenced at Lynn Magistrates' Court on Tuesday after standing trial and being found guilty of sexual assault.
The attack happened in October last year as the woman walked with her children in Wisbech Road, South Lynn.
Francis, of 49 Queens Avenue, South Lynn, was put on the sex offenders' register for five years and given a curfew order, meaning he will be tagged to ensure he is confined to his home between 8am and 4.30pm for the next four months.
He was also ordered to pay 100 compensation to the victim and 50 costs.
Mr Andrew Spence, representing him, said Francis maintained he was not guilty and had lost his previous good character through the conviction.
He said the pensioner's wife, who sat at the back of the court throughout the hearing, now accompanied him whenever he went out to walk his dog as a safeguard against any further accusations.
