Objections to Downham flats plan

PLANS for ten flats in Downham, have prompted more than 30 letters of objection.

West Norfolk development control board will hear on Monday that the proposed site for the flats is 168 Lynn Road where a detached house in large grounds could be demolished to make way for the scheme.

The eight one-bedroomed flats and two two-bedroomed flats with on-site parking for 13 cars would be surrounded by homes on three sides and a playing field to the west.

Board members will hear window openings at first floor and roof levels have been positioned to minimise loss of privacy.

Building materials would complement surrounding homes.

Downham Town Council is objecting to the plans on grounds including the scale of the flats, over-intensive and out-of-character development, cramped accommodation, overlooking and insufficient parking.

A total of 31 letters of objection to the scheme have also been received. Issues highlighted include the effect on current heavy traffic congestion in Lynn Road and on neighbouring property values.

The prospect of additional strain on water supplies and drainage is another concern.

Planning officers say the modified design is acceptable according to the development plan and national guidelines. Board members are being recommended to approve the flats.
