Ofsted inspectors impressed by Denver
PUPILS at a West Norfolk school have been highly praised by Ofsted inspectors who said they were "exceptionally impressed" by their behaviour and enthusiasm.
Inspectors said Denver Primary School was a good school, with outstanding features, and commended its pupils for their attitudes to learning.
The school, in Ryston Road, was rated "outstanding" for its pupils' personal development and well-being, with Ofsted noting that pupils "really love coming to school and speak very highly of its many strengths".
Inspectors visited the mixed school, with 109 pupils, last month and have now published their report, judging it an effective school providing a good quality of education.
Ofsted commended the school for its "very good range of extra-curricular activities and its efforts to encourage children to maintain a healthy lifestyle".
Headteacher Linda Allison said: "I have been the headteacher at Denver since September and I have been impressed from day one with the pupils' efforts and the pride they take in the school.
"I am thrilled that Ofsted has acknowledged the personal development of our pupils as outstanding, as the aim of our school is to nurture, educate and encourage all students to reach their full potential in all aspects of life.
"We will use the many highlights of this inspection to move forward as a school and continue to strive for improvements, particularly in the foundation stage.
"Our school's success is a team effort and all the staff, governors, pupils and parents should be commended for their role in making Denver such a special place."
Ofsted noted that those in the school had a shared commitment to raising standards, and the school had the capacity to improve further. In a letter home to youngsters, lead inspector Marina Gough said: "You are very lucky in having so many teaching assistants to help you, but sometimes when the classes are small, there are too many adults helping out and so you then do not do enough for yourselves."
Ofsted also noted reception children should have more opportunity to learn through play.
And concerning standards at the end of Year 2, the inspection team hoped that the school would ensure its most able pupils were "fully challenged" to attain their potential.
Pupils at the upper end of Key Stage Two were said to make "outstanding progress", however, with attainment in Year Six well above the national average in English, mathematics and science.
